Western Kansas is flat, dry, and very rural - in other words, this is what most people think of when they think of Kansas.

Western Kansas may seem dull, but it contains a great deal of pioneer history and small-town oddities. When visiting this region, it's important to remember which time zone you are in. Four counties in Western Kansas (Greeley, Hamilton, Wallace, and Sherman) are located in the Mountain Time Zone, while the remainder of the state is the Central Time Zone.
