Trip Overview

Traveling from San Antonio to Wichita Falls covers 337.3 miles and takes approximately 6 hours and 32 minutes of drive time. Because this route relies on local streets like West Market, East Market, and East Commerce rather than major interstates, it functions best as a dedicated, one-day trip. You should budget about $50 for fuel to complete the journey. Since both cities are located within the Great Plains, you will remain in the same geographic region throughout your drive. While the trip is manageable in a single day, the turn-heavy nature of these local roads requires your full attention. Before heading out, ensure you are comfortable with a slower, more technical pace compared to standard highway travel.

Trip Plan

Given the 6-hour and 32-minute duration, plan to depart early in the morning to avoid the fatigue that comes with navigating local streets for an entire day. You only have one planned stop on this route, so maximize that break to stretch and refuel effectively. Since you are relying on local roads, stay alert for changing speed limits and intersection traffic that can influence your arrival time. Seasonal Notes

Summer travel usually means heavier construction, hotter rest stops, and busier weekend traffic around major cities.

Winter travel shortens daylight, so a route that looks manageable on paper can feel much longer after dark.

Holiday weekends tend to make both departure and arrival windows slower than the raw route time suggests.

Time zone

Same local time

Origin and destination are on the same clock, so arrival timing is easier to judge at a glance.

Temperature spread

Very similar conditions

Both ends of the route are sitting at about the same temperature right now.
