Arrive at destination
To make the most of your 5-hour trek, plan for at least one dedicated stop to stretch your legs and refuel. Since you are looking at a single-day trip, departing early in the morning is your best strategy to avoid the heaviest peak-hour congestion near your destination. Keep a close eye on your fuel gauge, as the $39 estimate may fluctuate depending on current market prices and your vehicle's specific efficiency. Because 57% of your travel is on highways, maintain consistent speeds to optimize your fuel economy during those longer stretches. Given the significant distance, check local traffic reports before you leave to ensure the Long Island Expressway isn't experiencing unexpected delays.

Seasonal Notes
Summer travel usually means heavier construction, hotter rest stops, and busier weekend traffic around major cities.
Winter travel shortens daylight, so a route that looks manageable on paper can feel much longer after dark.
Holiday weekends tend to make both departure and arrival windows slower than the raw route time suggests.
Time zone
Origin and destination are on the same clock, so arrival timing is easier to judge at a glance.
Temperature spread
A meaningful temperature swing is a good cue to rethink layers, water, and how soon you want to arrive.
Road read
An early start around 7-8 AM gets you there with plenty of daylight left.

Binghamton is a city of 48,000 people (2020) in upstate New York, at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers. It is the cultural and financial center of the Greater Binghamton Metropolitan Area and is the Broome County seat. Binghamton is part of the "Triple Cities" with Endicott and Johnson City. Binghamton has many fantastic examples of Romanesque Revival Architecture in the city's center; for this, and for its collection of ornate mansions and nice homes, it's known as the Parlor City. The Binghamton area is also known as the Carousel Capital of America, home to 6 of the remaining 150 antique carousels in the nation. Other historic attractions are the Roberson Museum, Kopernik Space Center, and the Ross Park Zoo. Rod Serling, the screenwriter and television producer, was born here, and the regional sandwich known as the "spiedie" was created here.
