The site of a famous Civil War battle, in which the young cadets of the Virginia Military Institute marched for four days to challenge and defeat Union troops moving down the valley. "The Bugles, Boys, and Skirts" tour recalls the stories of the women of New Market before, during and after the Battle of New Market, May 15, 1864. Hear the tales of Jessie Rupert, Union Sympathizer, Eliza Crim, Confederate Heroine, wily Anna Maria Henkel who outwitted Yankee invaders, and brave Lucinda Rice. The tours are 90 minutes in length and view eight blocks of historic New Market, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
