The historic townsite, a once bustling iron smelting industrial community surrounding Snail Shell Harbor, features more than 20 historic buildings. A visitor center provides ample opportunities to learn about life in a 19th-century industrial town through interpretation provided by the Michigan Historical Center. Great North Winds PowWow. annually in September. On Fridays, there is a teaching lodge that is open to the public. This is a great way to find out who the Native American people are today. Then on Saturdays and Sundays, there are dancing, food and other activities. Snowmobiling
