Driving is the only practical and affordable option to arrive in Llano. The city is served by five highways. Texas Highway 16 serves Llano from north to south. This road serves visitors travelling north from Fredericksburg or south from San Saba. While the small community of Cherokee between Llano and San Saba has a convenience store and a place to stop for drinks, the drive from Fredericksburg has no similar amenities. Texas Highway 29 passes through the town from west to east. Mason lies to the west and Burnet and Buchanan Dam to the east. Texas Highway 71 passes through the town from southeast to northwest. Marble Falls and Austin are to the southeast, while Brady is to the northwest. This road terminates in Brady. Ranch Road 152 comes into Llano from the west and closely parallels the south bank of the Llano River. The road is anchored by the community of Castell to the west and US Highway 87 further away. The road is very beautiful and has plenty of scenic views, but is also windy with lots of sharp curves and hills. Take special care and go slow in these places. Ranch Road 2323 has its northern terminus in Llano. The road comes from the intersection with US Highway 87 and the small community of Prairie Mountain to the southeast. Offers beautiful scenic views and vistas of the Central Hill Country, and is an alternative for travelers coming from Fredericksburg via Texas Highway 16. No amenities of any kind exist on this road between its northern and southern terminus, so plan accordingly.
