Collingswood, NJ Road Trips

Collingswood is an inner-ring suburb of Philadelphia. It is a middle class community made of a mix of white and blue collar workers, and has experienced a renaissance because of its proximity to Philadelphia.

Knights Park offers a large greenspace with sports fields, a fountain, lakes, and paths. It is quiet but not far from the business district. Visit the historic Stokes-Lees house and Knight Homestead. Both were built in colonial times and are a symbol of Collingswood's long history.

Sagami Japanese is known to be one of the best sushi restaurants in New Jersey. Located on Route 130 on the western end of town, not easily accessible by walking from Collingswood station or main Haddon Ave corridor, can be reached by 10 minute walk from Ferry Ave Station, one stop prior. The Pop Shop received national attention when they beat Bobby Flay in a grilled cheese contest on TV. Ever since, the Pop Shop has expanded and catered to the needs of its ever growing consumers. The Pop Shop is a classic diner that offers a variety of foods, as well as very creamy ice cream. The Pop Shop constantly hosts events for families, children, teens, and sometimes adults. It is a center of community in Collingswood. Sabrina's Cafe - Offers delicious breakfasts for low prices, and large servings. Stuffed French toast, omelets, and other breakfast creations. DiBartolo Bakery - A great bakery with many pastries, cakes and cookies. Canollis are some of the best in the area. The Philly Pretzel Factory produces these classic Philly concoctions. The pretzels are truly a piece of Philly culture, you will not be disappointed. Wawa is a Philadelphia food mart that sells signature hoagies and irresistible tasty cakes.

There are no hotels in Collingswood, however the Crowne Plaza is a luxury hotel located just across Cooper River in Cherry Hill.

The PATCO high-speed commuter rail line has a stop at Collingswood Station. This train connects to Philadelphia, Lindenwold, Camden, and Haddonfield. The train is a very fast and easy commute option, which is twenty four hours a day and seven days a week! The fare for the PATCO rail line ranges from $1.25 to $2.70, for one way tickets. However, for round trips the ticket price ranges from $2.50 to $5.40. These are very affordable prices! 1 Collingswood railway station, 864 South Atlantic Ave. (updated Nov 2020) Route 70 runs just north of Collingswood, and has two bridges across Cooper River. Route 70 then becomes Admiral Wilson Blvd, which runs directly across the Ben Franklin Bridge into Center City, Philadelphia. Various buses run from Collingswood into Camden and Philadelphia, with most stops being on Haddon Avenue.

While Collingswood is generally safe, it does border Camden to the west. Certain areas of Collingswood that are near Route 130 are particularly dangerous, especially those west of it. The area west of the White Horse Pike is generally safe during the day, but it should be avoided at night. Most areas around downtown on Haddon Avenue, and Knights Park are very secure. The Collingswood Diner and Sagami Japanese are both in very dangerous neighborhoods, and there is very little parking nearby, so it is advised that you park at the Ferry Ave train station and walk.
