Via Interstate 35E or President George Bush Turnpike. From Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, take the DART Silver Line from Terminal B station. You can also take the Orange Line from Terminal A station and transfer to the Green Line at Bachman Station, but the Silver Line is slightly faster. From Dallas Love Field Airport, take the DART bus shuttle from the far end of the departures section of the lower level to Inwood/Love Field Station, from which you can take the Green Line to Carrollton. From Downtown Dallas, take the Green Line directly. The travel time to Carrollton from there is about 50 minutes.
The easiest way to get around is by car. Uber and Lyft ride sharing services are readily available in the area, as are car rentals from large national chains. Carrollton is also served by Dallas Area Rapid Transit, or DART. DART operates two train lines in Carrollton, as well as several bus routes. The light-rail Green Line goes south to Downtown Dallas, while the commuter-rail Silver Line goes southwest to DFW Airport and northeast to Plano. The buses and trains are generally clean and safe, though the majority of residents do not use mass transit and may tell you otherwise. Most will not be able to tell you how to get somewhere by bus or train. The DCTA A Train (run by the Denton County Transit Authority, not DART) starts at Trinity Mills Station, where it connects with the DART Green Line, and runs northwest to Denton. It does not run on Sundays. The three rail stations within Carrollton are: 1 Downtown Carrollton Station, 1013 N. Denton Dr. DART Green and Silver Lines. (updated Oct 2025) 2 Trinity Mills Station, 2525 Blanton Dr. DART Green Line and DCTA A-Train. (updated Oct 2025) 3 North Carrollton/Frankford station, 1717 W. Frankford Rd. DART Green Line only. (updated Sep 2020) Note that North Carrollton/Frankford is served only by the DART Green Line: the DCTA A-Train runs past it, but only stops at Trinity Mills. For more information on riding DART, see the Getting Around section of the Dallas article.
Carrollton is a mostly residential community, and considered a relatively safe place to be even at night. Obviously you should take care and be aware when walking alone outside at night, however should the need arise the Carrollton police are polite and plentiful.
