Traveler Guide to Buffalo, ND

Buffalo is a small town in the Red River Valley of North Dakota between Fargo and Valley City. It has a population of about 209 people.

The first settlement at Buffalo was made in 1878. A post office called Buffalo has been in operation since 1883. The city took its name from Buffalo (New York).Buffalo celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2005.

Buffalo Creek State Historic Site (2 1/2 miles northwest of Buffalo, ND), ☏ +1 701-633-8586, fax: +1 701-633-5227, [email protected]. Marker designates area crossed by Gen. Henry H. Sibley and his military expedition on August 16, 1863. His expedition included 3,300 soldiers and 200 wagons in a column five miles long. Old Stone Church Heritage Center. Tu 6PM-8PM, F 1PM-4PM, Sa 1PM-3PM. Built in 1885 as Calvary Episcopal Chapel, the Old Stone Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It hosts a variety of local and traveling museum exhibits, a library, and a museum store.
